Khaosan Road


There was a time when only the noises of a rise market were heard here, however it is all different today – Khaosan Road is the place where the West and the East literary meet. It is the crossroad frequented by numerous travelers, which is why the street is filled with low-cost guest houses and cheap hotels, stylish bars and clubs, restaurants, Internet cafes, massage salons, tourist agencies and book stores – in other words, there is everything that might be of interest to the youngsters with backpacks rushing to share their vivid impressions and get ready for the next stop on their route. Gradually the spirit of travel spread to the nearby Soi Rambuttri which is also full of guest houses, yet this street remains a lot quieter. Khaosan managed to remain its careless charm: neon night lighting, street sellers who can offer anything from fried insects to oriental souvenirs, as well as drunk nightclubbers roaming nearby places looking for fun and something exotic.

Khaosan, which was one of the filming spots for the iconic Beach movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, lures with its bustling nightlife. When the night comes to Bangkok, Khaosan Road colors the darkness with neon bursts of bars and clubs. A walk along Khaosan can be combined with a visit to the famous Sanam Luang, Great Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha. You can take a boat ride to see the wonderful beaming of the temples along the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Or you can just relax in a bar and contemplate maybe the most party-colored crowd in the world.

And you should also try street food in this street – Thai cuisine, Western dishes, Indian curry are available at every stop from the street stalls – foodies love this aspect of Khaosan Road. As for some exact piece of advice, try a meal from Thai rise and pancakes with vegetables and noodles. They are very tasty and, of course, cheap.
