Yapi Kredi Bankasi Kültür Merkezi

Joint-Stock Commercial Bank "Yapi Kredi" is one of the major Turkish private banks. Founded in 1944, this bank always was a very important entity in the development of the local economy. Bank’s cultural center is located in the very center of Istanbul and regularly host different events. The center consists of Kazim Taşkent Art Gallery, Vedat Nedim Tör Ethnography Museum and Sermet Çifter Salon.

Kazim Taşkent Art Gallery, opened in 1964, hosts exhibitions of modern and classic artistic works. Sermet Çifter Salon exhibits paintings by famous artists, for example, those of Ara Güler and Robert Capa. Ara Güler is known first of all for his series of celebrities’ photos, including those of Bertrand Russell, Winston Churchill, Salvador, Arnold Toynbee, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali. He underscores the importance of human presence in his pictures, for he thinks that a photo should preserve the memory about a person, about his life. The Ethnography museum, opened in 1992, displays calligraphy samples, unique embroidery, a collection of puppets belonging to the Karagöz Shadow Theater, and a rich collection of ancient coins.
