Stadium of Domitian

Stadio di Domiziano

Right next to the Domus Augustana there are remnants of the antique stadium – private stadium of emperor Domitian. The stadium was 160 m long and 50 m wide, in the middle of the east wall is a wide exedra of two floors which served as an Imperial box. The stadium served for various sports competitions including horse races. In the VI century the king of Ostrogoths, Theoderic, organised foot races on the stadium.
