Museum for the Present

Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart

This must be one of the most unusual museums of Berlin. Its distinctive feature is that it occupies a former railway station building – Hamburger Bahnhof. The building was commissioned in 1851 and until 1990 it had served for the intended purpose. In 1996 after completion of reconstruction works, it became a museum of contemporary art. Exhibitions are often the subject for hot discussion and argument due to their shock value and bold move.
