Berlin State Library (Building on Potsdammer Street)

Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin

This building of the Berlin State Library is newer as it was constructed after joining of the West and East Berlin as the old building on Unter den Linden could not accommodate the entire collection. The new library was opened in the Kulturforum in 1978. The old books remained in the old building while all the contemporary research and scientific literature was moved here. In 1987 building of the new library became known world-wide thanks to the German movie ’Wings of Desire’ (Der Himmel uber Berlin) by Wim Wenders.
