Aleksandrinsky teatr

The theatre developed from the group of actors of the first permanent public theatre established by the decree of Russian Empress Elisabeth. The theatre was named after Nicholas’s I wife, Alexandra. Until 1917 members of the royal family were frequent visitors of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. During the Siege of 1941-44 the theatre was evacuated to Novosibirsk.
