Mikhailovsky teatr

1833. The theatre was opened in the Mikhailovsky Palace that belonged to the younger son of emperor Paul I. Until the Revolution of 1917 the theater didn’t have permanent company of actors and approved repertoire; different theatre companies performed on the stage of the Mikhailovsky theatre. Among them is the orchestra of Johann Strauss, company group of Sarah Bernhardt, Feodor Chaliapin. World-famous cultural personalities worked here in the XX century. Within its history the theatre was renamed several times but the historical name was returned in 2001.
